James's story

Senior Investment Manager

I am a Senior Investment Manager in the Private Client team at Mazars. In this role I manage individual client portfolios and sit on our investment committee.

I studied Philosophy and Russian at university, which is not a natural way into financial services, but I started my career working as an intern at a brokerage and my foreign languages eventually led to me working with international clients.

Not studying economics or finance at university was a bit of a challenge at times. I had to learn a new field and educate myself to gain competence and prove myself to my peers and clients. And after fourteen years and many exams, I feel I have done this.

A few years ago while still at my previous employer, I began looking for a new position and even considered changing industry. However, once I came across Mazars and found out more about the firm’s culture and ambitions, I knew I had found a company that was genuinely different and values my wellbeing. This led me to accept an offer to join the investment team.

Mazars has many programmes in place to support our wellbeing, which in turn means we are in the best position to deliver great service to our clients. This is something I wanted to contribute to, and since joining the firm I have enjoyed getting involved in the many efforts and initiatives to support the mental health and wellbeing of our people.

I joined the mental health first aiders, a group of individuals that are trained to support colleagues who may be experiencing a mental health issue or crisis.  Following this I had the opportunity to lead the Well-maker network which exists to promote the firm’s wellbeing initiatives to support the wellbeing of our people.

For me, these initiatives and opportunities are typical of the great culture that we enjoy at Mazars and is one that I am immensely proud to support.

That’s Mazars & me.
