Sim's story

Corporate Tax

Sim, a Corporate Tax Senior explains why she joined Mazars, how you are not treated as a number and the opportunities and responsibility she has gained since joining.

I joined the Corporate Tax team in March 2022, with the intention of adding value to the team, as well as enhancing my technical and personal skills. The main driver for my move to Mazars was the firm’s positive reputation with employee welfare and wellbeing, where it is encouraged to speak up, share ideas and grow together.

My initial experience has been overwhelmingly positive. Aside from my roles and responsibilities within the Tax team, I have been involved with providing innovative solutions to better our tax technology processes and have been given the opportunity to launch a training programme for my peer group. These opportunities have solidified my impressions of Mazars as I feel valued and listened to!

The stigma attached to some accounting firms is that “you are just treated as a number”, however at Mazars I do not agree with this statement at all. There is no sense of hierarchy, but instead all levels are appreciated, and in my experience, treated equally. In the six months I have been at Mazars, I have worked directly with Tax partners, juniors and managers across other regional offices and I am treated fairly and with respect.

I was given a client allocation within my first couple of weeks of joining and have been selected to lead a new tax compliance job for a group of 50 entities – something I thought I’d only be allowed to do when I became a manager! This has provided me with a wealth of knowledge and on-the-job training which I did not have the exposure to at my previous workplace.

I look forward to a long career with Mazars where I can see myself flourishing with the support of my team and being surrounded by a positive workplace culture with really talented people.
