I didn’t know a great deal about Mazars before beginning the interview process. Feeling somewhat jaded from years at a different large accountancy firm, I was convinced that the issues I had faced at one firm would no doubt be replicated elsewhere once the novelty of a new job had worn off. Even if the grass was greener, would the lush meadows of the first six months of a new job fade into the familiar daily sludge I had become used to?

My fears were unfounded. From the start I was impressed at how supported I felt throughout the recruitment process. The keenness to understand and support my career choices and a shared interest in working in an inclusive environment came through immediately and continued as I met with other team members outside of my local office. Everyone seemed to have a shared sense of purpose when it came to what they wanted from a job and a career. To work hard and have fun along the way.

On my first day I wasn’t just welcomed with smiles and a new laptop. There was considered thought and structure around how my first 100 days with Mazars might look and an overriding message of “enjoy it!” And I can honestly say I did.

The welcome I felt not just from new colleagues in my local office but from those across the firm has been fantastic. 

What struck me as being different from where I have worked before is that Mazars really does walk the walk when it comes to people and culture. I was so used to working with those who did not truly value the idea of inclusion and career development and was disappointed when words never turned into meaningful action. Here, there seems to be a real sense of personal responsibility and pride amongst the leadership team when it comes to upholding our core values.

Fast-forward eight months and my initial views are unwavered. I continue to be impressed with the firm’s continued focus on people and acknowledging this as being key to underpinning a successful business.

I truly believe Mazars lives and breathes this ethos, even down to the screen savers.
